My Own "Stash"

As I’ve said many times, I don’t know a thing about quilting; I just want to raise money for the library. Well along came the local volunteers who know EVERYTHING about quilting AND some are even DONATING their own beautiful, gorgeous vintage fabric as well. How can I ever thank them? Yes, they keep saying they’ll see their OWN fabric on the quilt but I need to do something more.

Well one night my son Jason called, and I knew it was him (the caller ID thing) so I answered the phone “Jo’s Library Quilt.” He asked if he could sign a quilt square. I asked, are you famous? He said, no. I said, oh yes you are, you’re my favorite kid! A long-standing joke (I truly hope) between he and his sister, Shannon, for years! I said, oh wouldn’t that just drive Shannon crazy if she saw something on THE QUILT about you? We laughed, just kidding, etc., etc.

The next morning it hit me…I would ask each volunteer (and a few others who have contributed in special ways to this project) for a photo of something that was “special to their heart” and it would be placed on Jo’s Library Quilt as one of the blocks or book spines! Of course, EVERYONE was touched by the request and EVERYONE would like to use a photo of their family but unfortunately those just won’t blend (only innate objects as my artistic Quilt Meister describes!). Won’t this be a unique tribute? And for some, it will be a surprise to them who have helped me immensely but just don’t know it! I'm creating my own "stash" but have to give it away! Talk about once-in-a-life-time-quilt!
