Some Of The Volunteer Quilters Are Even Donating Fabric!

I planned on purchasing all of the fabric for the QUILT; however, Yvonne Judd, our Coalville Librarian (and the QUILT MEISTER) asked if I would accept fabric "donations" from their "stash" they have accumulated over the years. And what a collection of gorgeous, beautiful stash it is! And other volunteers creating this BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE Jo's Library Quilt are doing the same!!! They told me stories of where their fabric came from as they showed me pieces being incorporated into Jo's Library Quilt...and yes, my tears appeared again! This is just one BIG emotional journey! I've asked them to share their "stash" stories with you. Just another reason why this QUILT is unique, special and a once-in-a-life opportunity for YOU to WIN!

I had been a quilter for several years when I became a librarian. At that time I saw a picture of a library book quilt, telling myself that one day I would make my own version of that pattern to hang in our library. Trouble is there is NO SPACE. I’m not certain how it all happened but Jo’s desire to do a fundraiser for our Coalville branch brought about the opportunity for me to help create this particular quilt pattern as a giveaway prize.

For years I have collected and saved sacred scraps to use on a project such as this. The great majority of the fabrics being used from my stash are pieces that all have a story. I know each piece personally as I have worked with them to create quilts for loved ones, myself or for charity. Some pieces were purchased with projects in mind, some not. Some I bought while on shop hops with friends or during an annual quilt retreat trip to Idaho. Others just seem to appear from people who know of my passion.

Jo’s Library Quilt is enabling me to share my “stash” for two of my favorite things – the library and quilting. I cannot say enough about what she is doing for the people of our area. I sincerely hope that her efforts are rewarded two-fold. I know she is having the time of her life being is contact with such supportive authors. What an example she is of determination and work to serve others!

My fabric that I donated for Jo’s Library Quilt came from my “stash.” Let me tell you about my stash. Six years ago I had no idea what a fabric stash was. Then my quilting friends told me how to build a stash. Each time you buy fabric for a certain project, you always buy a little more than you need. Then you put it away in case you need it for another project. You can also buy a fat quarter or so of any fabric that catches your eye when you are window shopping!

Well, my stash has grown and multiplied and reproduced so much that I now have a wonderful stash! It includes fabric from the wedding quilts I made for each of my sons when they married, from the quilts I make for my grandchildren and some from a box that came from my Grandma. I treasure my stash and love to share it with others.
